Ellen Pompeo is a name that has become synonymous with excellence in television, thanks to her long-running role as Dr. Meredith Grey on “Grey’s Anatomy.” The show first aired in 2005 and catapulted Pompeo to fame.
As the face of the series for nearly two decades, Pompeo’s portrayal of the dedicated and resilient surgeon has garnered her a loyal fan base, making her a household name.
In 2023, after stepping back from her regular role on “Grey’s Anatomy” in its 19th season, Pompeo thrilled fans when she made a much-anticipated return for the 20th season.

The hit medical drama, known for its emotional storylines and compelling characters, was renewed for a landmark 20th season in March 2023, and Pompeo’s appearance in the promotional teasers set social media abuzz.
Having spent over 18 years in the spotlight, Pompeo has experienced the unique pressures of maintaining a public image in Hollywood, especially as she ages.
The actress has always been open about the challenges of growing older in an industry known for valuing youth above all. “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood,” the star remarked.
In interviews, she’s spoken candidly about how her decision to stay with “Grey’s Anatomy” was largely influenced by her awareness of ageism in the entertainment world. Pompeo, who landed her breakthrough role in her mid-20s, shared that had she been younger, she might have left the show sooner to pursue other opportunities.

However, as she faced her 40s, she recognized the difficulties of finding substantial roles for older women in Hollywood and chose to continue her journey with “Grey’s Anatomy.” Looking back, it’s a decision she doesn’t regret.
However, while Pompeo has enjoyed career stability, aging on-screen hasn’t always been easy. “Watching myself age on TV is miserable. To be honest, it’s the toughest part of my job,” the actress admitted.

Despite these challenges, Pompeo embraced the natural aging process, insisting that focusing too much on physical appearance can be harmful. “The older you get, the more you realize life isn’t about your looks. Everyone ages and it’s okay,” she said.
In 2016, Pompeo partnered with the beauty brand Philosophy to challenge societal norms around aging. Through the brand’s #CoolAger campaign, the actress helped to dispel the stigma associated with growing older, promoting a positive and empowering message.

In one of her Instagram posts for the campaign, Pompeo shared her thoughts on the subject, writing, “Everyone talks about the bad side of aging. I believe growing older is a privilege; it doesn’t have to be negative. Join me and @lovephilosophy and let’s change the conversation to be cool.”

Beyond her partnership with Philosophy, Pompeo has consistently advocated for a more holistic approach to beauty. During an interview, the actress revealed her favorite beauty discovery of the year — frequency facials.

Known for avoiding fillers and Botox, Pompeo credits her youthful appearance to regular facials and plenty of hydration. She explained, “I feel like the frequency facial makes a difference in my skin — it makes it tighter.”
When asked for advice for women who struggle with beauty standards, Pompeo urged them to focus on their inner qualities. “Beauty comes from what kind of person you are and what your contribution is to the world,” she said.
