With heavy hearts, we report that officials have confirmed at least 18 lives were lost in last night’s devastating midair collision over Washington DC.
Emergency responders continue their recovery efforts in the freezing Potomac River, where both American Airlines Flight 5342 carrying 64 passengers and the US Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers, went down after colliding near Reagan National Airport.
First responders are working tirelessly in challenging conditions to recover victims and investigate the cause of this tragedy. The airport remains closed as operations continue.
Our deepest condolences go out to all the families who lost loved ones in this terrible accident. This is one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the DC area’s history.
This remains a developing story. We ask our Nightfam to keep the victims, their families, and the rescue teams in their thoughts during this difficult time.Â
