Chaos and a burning car after an accident on I-75 in the Miami area.

The accident caused long delays, panic among drivers, and intensive deployment of emergency teams.

Miami, Florida – A serious traffic accident on Interstate 75 (I-75) in southwest Miami-Dade County caused chaos , panic, and a vehicle engulfed in flames Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which involved at least three   vehicles, left several people injured and paralyzed traffic in both directions for several hours.

According to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. near the Miami Gardens Drive exit. Witnesses said one of the  vehicles involved lost control, hit the median strip, and was struck by another speeding vehicle, causing one of the vehicles to catch fire almost immediately .

“It was like an explosion. We heard a loud bang, and then we saw flames. People started running out of their cars, some screaming,” said Ana Torres, a driver who witnessed the incident from the oncoming lane.

Scenes of desperation and rapid response

Witness videos show plumes of black smoke rising above the highway as several bystanders tried to rescue the  vehicle’s occupants before the fire spread. Some managed to pull out a trapped man seconds before the car was completely engulfed in flames.

Miami-Dade County firefighters arrived quickly on the scene and brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes . At least four people were injured , two of them seriously, and were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those injured.

Traffic paralyzed and detours

I-75 was temporarily closed in both directions, creating a traffic jam that stretched for more than 10 miles. Alternate routes were opened via US-27 and the Turnpike, although traffic flow was extremely slow for several hours.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) issued an alert through its digital platforms, recommending avoiding the area and using traffic apps for alternate routes. Normal vehicle flow was not fully restored until after 8:00 p.m.
