Police recently arrested Vivaldo Costa Santos on suspicion of causing a fatal accident on the BR-101 highway in southern Bahia. The tragic incident resulted in the death of two brothers and left a third victim in serious condition. The accident occurred on Saturday, July 6, involving two vehicles, one of which was driven by Vivaldo, who is being investigated for reckless driving.
According to the Porto Seguro Technical Police, the victims of the accident were identified as Flávio Santos Souza, 42 years old, Franklin Alves de Souza, 40 years old, and Francielle Rodrigues de Souza, 23 years old. They were all siblings and lived in Espírito Santo. They were returning home after their father’s funeral, held in Santa Luzia, in the south of Bahia, when the tragedy happened on the road.
Unfortunately, Flávio and Franklin did not survive the impact and died at the scene of the accident. Their younger sister, Francielle, was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The incident shocked friends and family, who deeply mourn the loss and hope for Francielle’s recovery.
Initial investigations indicate that Vivaldo Costa Santos, who was driving a Ford Ecosport, had made a dangerous overtaking maneuver on a curve, which caused a head-on collision with the brothers’ vehicle. Witnesses to the accident were interviewed by the police, and the analysis of the evidence reinforced the decision to arrest Vivaldo in flagrante delicto, considering the severity of the damage caused.
Vivaldo was also injured in the accident and was taken to a health facility, where he received medical attention. His arrest will be reviewed by the courts, which will decide whether to continue his detention as the investigation progresses. Authorities emphasize that reckless actions on the road, such as dangerous overtaking, can have tragic consequences.
The bodies of Flávio and Franklin were sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML), where they will undergo examinations before being released for burial.
