Cynthia Erivo has slammed fans who edited her recent movie poster, describing it as the “most offensive thing I have seen.”
After the release of the official poster of her upcoming movie musical Wicked in which she stars alongside Ariana Grande, Erivo, 37, was forced to battle against a fan-made image depicting the original version of the art.
For those of you who might not have seen it, the recent release shows Erivo in character as Elphaba looking directly at the camera while Glinda (played by Grande) is seen whispering in her ear.
The image is very similar to the illustration used to promote the original Broadway musical, although fans were quick to point out certain key differences like Elphaba’s eyes are covered by the brim of her hat, her lips are a bright shade of red, and she is smirking.

The fan account @wickedmexicofans on Instagram was one of many to post an edited version of the poster that more closely resembled the illustration, which was done using an AI tool, though the British actress was not pleased by the viral recreation.
Taking to Instagram Stories, the performer hit out at fans, reposting the image alongside a statement that read: “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen, equal to that awful AI of us fighting, equal to people posing the question ‘is your ***** green.’”
She continued: “None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us. The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. I am a real-life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer… because, without words, we communicate with our eyes.
“Our poster is an homage, not an imitation, to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me. And that is just deeply hurtful,” the star added.
Erivo then followed the statement up with the new release of the poster, with the caption: “Let me put this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.”
Public opinion of the move seemed divided, so much so that the actress disabled comments on her post, but that did not stop fans from taking to other images on her Instagram feed to let their views be known.
“It’s not that deep girl. People are dying,” wrote one user.
“You are a very privileged person. Picking fights with fans of Wicked over a fan edited photo is in very poor taste, just weeks before the movie’s release, and reeks of emotional immaturity on your part,” another added.
“Woah almost as good as broadway! Or are we not allowed to talk about that based on your reaction to a simple poster,” a third chimed in.
Over on X, the response seemed to be similar.

Liam Payne’s preliminary autopsy results confirmed, one day after his death aged 31

The results of Liam Payne’s preliminary autopsy have been revealed, a day after the singer died.
Fans were left devastated after news of the One Direction star’s death was confirmed on Wednesday (October 16.)
The 31-year-old star reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony attached to the hotel room where he had been staying in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
First responders told local news outlets that the singer’s injuries were so severe there was no chance he could be saved.
According to reports from The Sun, the results of Payne’s preliminary autopsy have now been confirmed.
The report states that the singer suffered severe injuries that led to “internal and external hemorrhaging” from the fall, according to a post-mortem carried out by two forensic pathologists in Buenos Aires.
Further tests are currently ongoing amid the investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires emergency services, previously revealed Payne had a “cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death”.
TMZ broke the news of Payne’s death, revealing that several witnesses said the singer fell from the room he was staying in on the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires.
Witnesses claimed that the tragic incident occurred shortly after 5PM and that Payne had allegedly been “acting erratic in the hotel lobby earlier”.
Payne, who was a former member of One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, was a father to a seven-year-old son, Bear Payne, with his ex, singer Cheryl.
Reuters also shared that local newspapers La Nacion and Clarin reported that police were called to the hotel in the neighborhood of Palermo after an emergency call regarding an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”
The BBC reports that the head of Buenos Aires’s SAME emergency medical service, Alberto Crescenti, told local television Payne had suffered “very serious injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall” and there was “no possibility of resuscitation”.

Fans have hit out at TV presenters for questioning one of Liam Payne’s closest friends about his death – just moments after he found out.
News of the One Direction star’s tragic and sudden passing broke on October 16.
At just 31 years old, Payne was reported dead after he tragically fell from a third-floor balcony at the Hotel CasaSur in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Despite authorities attending to the singer promptly, Payne’s injuries were so severe that he was unable to be revived.
Fans and stars alike – including some of those closest to the former One Direction member – have since been sharing tributes to Payne.
One celebrity who described himself as being a close and good friend with Payne is Ant Middleton, the former SAS: Who Dares Wins star who first met Payne during the singer’s appearance on his Sky show Straight Talking.
After the pair candidly opening up about their mental health, 44-year-old Middleton says he remained close with the singer, telling Australia’s Channel 7 Sunrise show: “I speak to Liam quite often, he’s a good friend of mine.”
Sadly, these comments came while Middleton was supposed to be speaking to presenters about the challenge of climbing the world’s second-highest mountain.
But during the segment, one of the hosts asked Middleton: “We know that you are here to talk about this other project, but we’re going to put that to one side for just a moment, because we have to get your thoughts on the news of Liam Payne. You’ve only just heard this news yourself.
“You recently spoke with Liam?”
Appearing totally unprepared for the conversation, Middleton – who was speaking remotely from a wooded area – said: “Yeah I speak to Liam quite often, he’s a good friend of mine. And, wow, I’m shocked, this is obviously the first I’m hearing of it.”
The host then said she was “so sorry” for his loss, as Middleton – again, visibly as a loss – said: “Um, and, wow. I don’t really know what to say about that. I’m going to have to make sure that I reach out to the relevant people to find out what’s happened to my good friend.
“But I’m away filming at the moment as you can see, that’s why I’m wet and there’s a bit of noise around me. But yeah […] my condolences and I hope they find out what’s gone on.”
“He always, after we filmed Straight Talking with Ant Middleton, he was my first celebrity guest, and we formed a brotherhood,” the SAS star said. “He was like a younger brother to me. He would confide in me, I’d go round and see him.”
Speaking about Payne’s wellbeing, Middleton described the singer as “confident”, adding: “There were some issues there, but nothing that a young celebrity at his calibre wouldn’t suffer from.
“So I’m just shocked at the moment really, wow. Yeah. Don’t really know what to say.”
The moment has left some viewers enraged, with people taking to the comments section of the show’s YouTube channel to voice their disapproval.

During his time on Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking back in 2019, the singer bravely opened up about the mental health battles he had faced as a result of achieving such a high degree of fame so young.
He heartbreakingly admitted: “For some certain circumstances – I’m quite lucky to be here still, which is something I’ve never really shared with anyone.
“I can’t go too deep into it because I don’t know how I feel myself. I still haven’t made my peace with it, to be honest.”
“There’s times where that level of loneliness and people getting into you every day,” Payne continued. “Just every so often, you’re like, when will this end? That’s almost nearly killed me a couple of times.”
At the time, Payne explained that he was able to push through so many of his struggles because he was surrounded by “really great people”.

The 32-year-old Only Murders in the Building actress was spotted dining at the Nobu Fifty-Seven restaurant in New York City on Tuesday night (October 15).
In a video obtained by TMZ, the ‘Love You Like A Love Song’ singer could be seen taking several photos and signing autographs for fans after her meal at the high-end restaurant.
She also stopped to interact with a homeless man and asked her bodyguard if he had cash, which he did. Gomez then gave the man $20 and told him to “Have a good meal” before walking away.Watch the video below:

Some people criticized Gomez’s good deed on social media and pointed out that she only gave the man $20 despite being a billionaire.
One person wrote: “So [much[ money and only 20$,” while another chimed in: “That’s like a penny split into 100 parts for her.” A third questioned: “That’s all????” and a fourth added: “Just 20? I mean nice and generous gesture but 20 these days don’t by much. She could have afforded to give him a little more.”
However, the former Disney Channel star’s loyal fanbase – dubbed as the ‘Selenators’ – hit back at critics and noted that it’s likely that Gomez didn’t have any cash on her.
“I’m glad she asked her bodyguard if he had any cash since I seriously doubt this homeless fella had a credit card reader or the phone to go with it! Sheesh!” one fan blasted.
“Before y’all comment, how much did you give the homeless guy??” a second user said, while someone clarified: “She didn’t have cash on her and her bodyguard had $20, which he gave the man. A lot of us don’t carry cash anymore. It’s all debit cards we carry now.”
On September 6, Bloomberg reported that Gomez’s Rare Beauty is worth over $1.3 billion, putting her on their billionaires index for the first time.
The publication shared that the “wealth analysis [of Selena Gomez] took into account the estimated value of her stake in Rare Beauty, her interest in Wondermind, the estimated value of her music album sales and properties, and earnings from streaming deals, brand partnerships, concert tickets and acting”.
Gomez opened up about her brand’s success during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, stating: “I’m very grateful.”
She remarked that talking about money was “distasteful,” and added: “I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products…They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I’m really, really honored and just happy.”

Liam Payne‘s ex-fianceé has revealed the heartbreaking comments the singer made before his sudden death at age 31.
The former One Direction star tragically passed away on Wednesday, October 16, after reportedly falling from a third-floor room balcony in the Hotel CasaSur in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Before news of the ‘Strip That Down’ musician’s shock death circulated online, his ex-fianceé, Maya Henry, opened up about her tumultuous relationship with Payne on the podcast The Internet Is Dead.
The influencer, who was with the singer from 2018 to 2022, claimed that Payne continued to contact her after their break-up. The constant contact forced her to allegedly issue a cease and desist letter just last week, according to Daily Mail.
“He would always message me ever since we broke up, like ‘Oh, I’m not well.’ He would always play with death and be like ‘Well, I’m gonna die. I’m not doing well,'” Henry said.
The 23-year-old told podcast hosts: “I know the lifestyle he lives and there is a day something bad is going to happen so I would always be like ‘OK he’s saying these things, I have to help him, if I don’t I’ll never be able to live with myself if something does happen to him,'” she added.
She described her ex’s messages as a “manipulation tactic” to make her feel bad for him despite them not being together.
“There was one time I tried to get him help and then he was not taking it,” she continued. “He would text my mom, ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me,’ because I wouldn’t respond,” cited by Page Six. “It’s just always the same cycle.”
Henry hasn’t issued a personal statement following news of the ‘You and I’ singer’s death but her representative told Daily Mail: “Right now she is obviously in shock.”
The outlet claimed that the model only found out when a member of her team was contacted by a reporter.
According to a report by BBC News, authorities responded to an emergency call, reportedly made by the hotel manager, about an “aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol” and was “destroying the room,” per AP News.
While there was no confirmation that this call was about Payne, the hotel manager expressed concerns about the accessible balcony in the guest’s room. Shortly after cops arrived, a loud sound was heard from the hotel’s courtyard, and Payne’s body was found.
Alberto Crescenti, the head of the state emergency medical system, has also released a statement to Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel adding further details.
“At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel,” the statement read, per The Mirror.
“At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation,” he added.
